Governor Edric Vey walked into a Bastion briefing bay like a man who had decided the cameras would not get to write his epitaph early.

He thanked Marine cordons by unit designation. He touched the Valemar belt-pin once when a stringer tried to drag him into Haliori blood mythology. He said the quiet federal sentence without raising his voice: the shooter died before interview; the Haliori-government-insider claim remains unsubstantiated; Valemar will not open borders to purchase quiet.
