Rank Zero Hunters vs. Fifteen Fishing Drones — They Hit ONE. Security Locked the Sewer. You're Welcome.
Three licensed embarrassments wandered a sump crawl looking for a vent race and found kids training softball drones on the biggest "fish" in Pump Line C. Premium tier gets the miss counter.
“One for fifteen. That's not marksmanship — that's a lottery ticket with collateral. My subscribers are looping it with funeral music.”
PAID TIER FIRST
— free scrape gets the headline and my sympathy (none). Subscribers already watched the miss counter in slow motion. If you're hearing this on a noodle counter speaker, upgrade or enjoy the shame secondhand.
Three Rank Zero bounty hunters — board-licensed, credstick-funded, confidence-rich — went into the sump-pump crawl under Sump-Nine hunting rumor of an illegal vent drone heat. Wrong tunnel. Right comedy.
They did not find Dash Korril's catwalk circus. They did not find Vent-Rat Nelly's workshop hatch. They found children — trespassing, because kids always trespass where maintenance says no — running a fishing league on the sewer stream. Softball-sized angler drones, bait lines, leaderboard chalk on a pipe, the whole sad beautiful religion of kids who are not allowed in the tunnels and go anyway because the arcology forgot to give them a park.
The drones are not toys. They're trained. Threaten the kid, the drone entangles — monofilament and grab arms, hold long enough to run. Maintenance staff chase them off weekly. Port Watch arrests them if caught. The kids know the playbook. The hunters did not read it.
One hunter — names withheld because my lawyer eats noodles too — decided a softball drone hooking his partner was an existential event. He opened fire. Stun pistol. Maybe bravado. Definitely geometry.
Fifteen drones
in the air. One hit. One.
The rest kept flying, filming, and doing what children programmed them to do when adults prove adults are the problem. A drone dropped a safety lockdown ping on the grid. Grilles slammed. Pump Line C went sealed. Local security personnel woke up happy for the first time this quarter because the incident report writes itself.
Port Watch statement will call it "unauthorized discharge in a municipal conduit." I call it Rank Zero marksmanship — the kind of performance that makes the Bounty Hunters League send a polite email and the fixers send a less polite one.
What the kids were doing
Training for the biggest fish in the sewer stream — mutant sump eel, trash serpent, whatever fiction keeps them brave. The drones are Guppy Hook class and up — cheap rotors, expensive hope. Parents think they're in study hall. They're in a crawl learning entangle patterns because maintenance bruised Kesh last month and nobody apologized.
What the hunters were doing
Looking tough on a ₡2,400 race bounty and a ₡3,500 vent-rat poster they will now collect with a security interview attached. Sheesh.
Clip desk notes
- Miss counter
14/15 — subscriber overlay available.
- Miss counter: 14/15 — subscriber overlay available.
- Lockdown duration: eleven minutes — long enough for noodles to cool.
- No kids injured. One drone decommissioned heroically. Hunters detained for statements. Race rumor still hot — because embarrassment does not cancel heat, it advertises it.
Elsewhere on the Net
Jax Vesper (clip duet, not journalism)
"I import ₡9,800 wine and these people cannot hit a CHILD'S FISHING DRONE — the Spire is a civilization, the Sump is a tutorial level someone skipped."
Cole Harrow (Long Haul Live syndicated bite)
"Security recruiting up ninety-two percent and we still have hunters who shoot softballs in a sewer. Berthline did not fix this — but we can laugh at it until the ads run."
Dockhand (Wire comment thread, not me)
"Maintenance staff wanted arrests. Kids wanted footage. Hunters wanted dignity. Nobody got what they wanted except my subscriber count."
If you're Rank Zero
Buy restraint foam. Stop shooting rotors. Read the board before the crawl. And if you need gear that assumes you'll miss — Hunter Outfitters finally shipped a web storefront. Fiction checkout. Real shame. Link in the screamsheet ads.
