Governor Edric Vey of the Valemar system survived an assassination attempt today at Crownline Bastion.
Channel 5 has independent confirmation from Bastion traffic control, two Marine cordon leads, and a civil executive aide who would only speak if we left her name in the recycle bin where it belongs.
What happened
Vey was moving between a civil briefing suite and a Navy liaison bay — the boring kind of route governors take when they want the cameras to see competence instead of theater. A male attacker closed from a contractor transfer spur with a short-range weapon. Bastion security dropped him before a second shot. Vey was moved under hard escort. Public medical is "stable." Private medical is not answering our calls, which is its own kind of answer.
What happened next
The shooter was alive when they cuffed him.
He is not alive now.
Federal custody reports a medical event before any substantive interview. No public toxicology. No public identity packet beyond a contractor-adjacent cover name that already smells like a shell. Witness Security says the investigation is active. That sentence is mandatory and should not be mistaken for comfort.
The rumor nobody should treat as fact
Net rooms are pushing the story that the attacker was an outside agent, possibly tasked by someone inside the Haliori government. Channel 5 has no proof. Governor Vey's office has not endorsed that claim. The Haliori Crown's public desk has not answered our request for comment — which, on a ceasefire front, is also not proof of anything except that their lawyers sleep with their boots on.
We will not launder an unsubstantiated Haliori-insider theory into a war headline. We will say the quieter, uglier sentence: somebody tried to kill a rim governor who won office on no open borders with the Haliori, and the person who could have answered for it died before a microphone got warm.
