Dead Reckon is built around a brutally simple telltale: three mechanical flags show clean feed, buffered feed, or bypass, even when the display and half the berth are dark. Nickel-plated bus forks enter through a gasketed backplate; the capacitor bricks sit in rubber cradles behind a dented composite cover. A healthy unit ticks once when it catches a sag, then its cooling fan winds up with the thin whine dockhands learn to hear through bulkheads.
Two quarter-turn latches expose the fuse drawer and fan cassette. The energy bricks remain behind an interlocked shield, because Amperex has met customers. This model carries crane controls and cargo-door motors through ugly dock switching, not long outages. Its local event counter is accepted by most insurers only when the tamper wire is intact. Finance contracts charge per recorded surge after the first hundred, so thrifty crews sometimes cut that wire—saving credits today and voiding casualty coverage tomorrow.
