Gateburn’s salvage optic is a soot-black monocular with a flip-down welding filter and a nose for stressed metal. Ultrasonic taps travel through its contact probe; the eyepiece paints cracks, voids, and hidden fasteners over the magnified view. Wreck cutters use it to find where a beam will fold before they put heat into it. Burglars use it to find the thin side of a safe. The distinction lives mostly on invoices. The probe must touch the surface, and vibration from engines muddies the image. A battered speaker clicks louder as strain rises. Old hands trust the clicking more than the display, particularly after the display begins showing cracks that move when they blink.
