Copper Ghost is an old-fashioned crew-door latch with one clever vice: it tattles physically. The steel bolt carries a soft copper collar stamped with the ship’s mark. Normal retraction leaves a narrow spiral polish; prying, magnet attacks, or driving the solenoid from an outside lead scar it differently. A brushed aluminum faceplate hides the collar but not from anyone holding the issued inspection key. The latch bolts through timber, composite, or light bulkhead panels and accepts coded brass keys plus a simple wired keypad. There’s no Net radio to spoof and no remote unlock to sell later as a subscription. A dry cell powers roughly a year; the key still works when it dies. The event register stores only 256 entries, and static from bad welding can add phantom keypad failures. That limitation is honest. On tramp ships, a mismatched copper collar can get a deckhand fired, a watch officer punched, or an entire theft claim denied.
