The strip bridges a hatch, viewport, cabinet, or inspection plate and records cutting, peeling, heat, and continuity changes. Press it onto degreased metal; the adhesive has a vinegar bite and fails beautifully on coolant film. Rolls belong in a sealed bag with their serial ledger, because loose strips invite counterfeit reassurance. Freight crews use them to settle arguments about who opened what. Wealthier clients pair them with live monitoring. An intact strip proves only that this strip was not disturbed. Poor placement leaves alternate access, while an unlogged replacement can make the innocent look industrious. Hard Mercy assumes nobody has time to be gentle: latches are broad, corners are rubber-armored, and the instructions are blunt enough to read while swearing. It smells faintly of hot phenolic when first unsealed, a yard-made signature that never quite leaves.
