Hardline is eight kilograms of steel-nickel deposition wire on a sealed square spool, meant for brackets, clamps, housings and repair blanks rather than pretty work. The alloy tolerates shipboard heat cycles and indifferent storage better than most. Once the end cap goes missing, though, every grain of dock dust seems to regard the spool as affordable housing.
