Pin Reach

Overview

Pin Reach

Two hops off Khesret, one past Hardfell Core, the chart still lists nothing but a gate lane and a HIP number — because nobody on the ground ever asked to be listed. From orbit the nightside tells a different story: thermal blooms like a string of forge-cities stitched along a cold grey arc, thin atmosphere bleeding heat where millions of windows refuse to go dark. Concord registries call the spur uncharted. The hold calls that accurate.

You drop through radio chatter running wide open in the clear — market prices, shift bells, guild pins counted aloud like prayer — into a berth cut back into dark basalt under a thin, cold sky. The port is A-class by any honest measure: mooring rings, heat-curtains, fuel hooks, a dock-desk where every dwarf on the ramp wears beadwork and pin-brooch standing the way other polities wear rank tabs. Hundreds of millions of people live down there under strict hold law and their own iron courts, on a world of grey seas and pin-lit nights, and not one filing clerk in the League ever put their name on a Concord chart. They didn't forget. They decided. A hold keeps its own books, the saying goes, or it isn't a hold — and being put on yours is the same as being owned.

That's the thing about Pin Reach. It isn't empty frontier waiting for a scout's pencil. It's a peopled, lawful, industrial dwarf hold that simply never wanted the rings to know where the forge-fires burn. Outsiders find it impressive and unnerving in the same breath: real coffee, a straight welcome, berths that work — and the quiet certainty that logging this place for Concord is not a neutral act. Here, charting is politics.
