Pin Reach Basalt Berths
Overview
Pin Reach Basalt Berths
You come down through thin cold air lit from below — nightside forge-glow bleeding up through cloud gaps — and set your hull into a berth cut straight back into black basalt, a slot of worked stone with mooring rings older than the Concord and a heat-curtain roaring at the mouth to keep the thin atmosphere out. The port is A-class. For a world the chart still calls uncharted, Pin Reach keeps its docks the way a proud guild keeps its pin-register: everything squared, everything counted, everything on display for folk who can read it.
Up from the berths is the guild-dock district, low halls of black stone and warm iron light, the smell of sea-stew and hot metal, and the sound — pins clicked against beadwork as dwarves greet and settle standing with their whole financial and moral history hanging in brooch and braid. Debt-clan pins. Guild-honor pins. Hold-kin pins. A dock-warden can read a stranger's entire standing from ten feet away, and does, before asking the question that matters here: what exactly do you think you're logging for the rings?
It is the friendliest hard place you'll ever land if you came to look and leave. They'll feed a crew that asks permission before they upload and mean it — real coffee, a bunk, a straight welcome. And in the same breath a warden will step to your ramp with a soft voice and a pin-register ledger and want to know, precisely, whether your survey chain names them to Concord — because on Pin Reach charting is not catalog hygiene. It is politics, enforceable by folk who've known the hold for three centuries and law strict enough to make a petty paperwork fight feel like a siege.
