Deep Rise Claim

Overview

Deep Rise Claim

You come down through a sour orange murk that reads corrosive on every instrument, into a canyon so deep the daylight gives up halfway, and there it is: a wildcat claim bolted to a rock wall like it's holding on with its fingernails. A pressure-sealed shack, a fuel cache, a shaft head with a battered Extraction Frame parked beside it still ticking with heat, and cable runs going down into the dark where the real work is. Thirty years of one dwarf's stubbornness, and until about a season ago that's all it was. Then the assays came back rich, and now the shack has the specific tension of a place that just got valuable and knows what usually happens next.

Vondra Deep-Cut runs it with a crew you could fit around one table, debt-clan folk mostly, hair-beads and forearm bands that a Guild clerk would read as owing more than they own. They'll take your resupply with the rough gratitude of people who've been alone a long time — hot food, a bunk out of the pressure, a straight accounting of every crate. They earned this seam in the worst air in the sector and they know, the way you know weather in your bad knee, that earning a thing and keeping it are two different fights out here.

Because the claim's real threat doesn't come up the canyon with a cutter. It comes down the gate lane with a stamped writ, a patient smile, and a beadwork ledger that says Vondra's charter has an irregularity and the seam should really belong to a System King who never turned a shovel. A crew delivering supplies here is standing on the exact spot where a life's work either holds or gets quietly, legally taken — and which way it goes may depend on whether somebody with a fast hull is willing to carry a little proof to the right registrar before the paperwork closes.

tone
Thirty years of one dwarf's stubbornness that just got valuable — rough gratitude over a claim about to be taken by writ
senses
Corrosive orange murk, the tick of a hot-parked Extraction Frame, hot food in a pressure-sealed shack, cable-drum whine from the shaft, bead-click as a debt-clan crew counts your crates
occupantSummary
Vondra Deep-Cut and a table-sized debt-clan crew; an inbound Guild assay-agent with a stamped writ; the odd resupply hull
hazards
Corrosive dense atmosphere that eats a cheap seal; no law on the canyon floor (no protection either); a foreclosure writ timed to your delivery; a cornered Guild agent
connections
Concord gate one hop to Hardfell Core (then Khesret); two anonymous lanes; short hauls to the ore belts and gas-giant fuel skim
travelNote
Land on the corrosive-murk shelf; resupply hulls dock at the shack; a Guild assay-shuttle can set down on the overlook uninvited during a forfeit window
factionTies
A lone debt-clan wildcat holds the claim; a System King's assay office wants it under League charter; Hardfell Assay factors broker the resupply; Concord holds the gate
