Its communications analyzer measures signal delay, loss, and routing faults while carrying ordinary berth traffic, injecting coded pulses and measuring return jitter. Testing requires a physical line tap or paired beacon; it inserts a low-energy coded burst between live packets and listens for the return. Every run keeps raw channels, calibration lot, operator mark, location, and confidence limits in a signed local trail. Calibration uses a certified loopback plug; mismatched serials remain attached to the result instead of being waved away. The crew model has oversized controls and accepts gloved operator marks. Clean the coupler contacts, retorque the antenna collar, and replace the clock cell every six months. Multipath and clock drift can imitate signal delay, loss, and routing faults; the raw jitter plot stays visible so a tidy average cannot launder the error.
