Heat-blued metal, amber crystal, and lacquered scorch marks make Gateburn resemble a reliquary salvaged from an engine fire. Its ten ampoules recreate the charged air after gate passage without the actual transit: hot copper, ozone, bitter resin, and a faint pressure behind the eyes. Hosts crack an ampoule, dim the suite, and touch the crystal latch with a travel token while the system rolls amber haze across the ceiling. For six hours everyone looks newly arrived from somewhere dangerous. Filters must cool overnight; impatient reuse bakes the scent into upholstery and irritates station scrubbers. Gate veterans sometimes find the atmosphere calming. Others leave immediately, which makes deploying it without warning a nasty social trick. Among wealthy travelers, tolerating Gateburn reads as nerve and experience. Among crews, buying counterfeit transit sickness for entertainment reads as exactly what it is. Frequent users can begin craving the charged pressure, spending heavily on refills and taking real crossings they do not need.
