Coldrail's squat fern arrives in an insulated sleeve with a temperature stripe already showing every indignity of transit. Its hairy slate-green fronds catch nuisance spores and comb them down into a replaceable felt-root mat. Healthy substrate smells of wet granite and cedar mulch; sour dough means the mat has warmed, bloomed, and should not be opened indoors. Keep it in damp shade under six hours of low amber light, mist with mineral water, and move loaded mats in their quarantine bag. Transfer crews and cheap freight berths use Coldrail because cargo climate control is often a sales-office fairy tale. Private clinics buy prettier walls. The fern reduces airborne load, nothing more. Freeze-thaw damage makes the fronds shed captured material; one careless shake near suit lockers can turn a contained fungal nuisance into a shipwide cleaning order.
