Gravelight medicinal moss forms dense olive pads over porous basalt, held in a tray built for muddy gloves and bad footing. Healthy culture smells of rain, penny metal, and crushed thyme. Keep the stone damp from below, give it eight hours of cool diffuse light, and cut strips with boiled shears—never tear the crown. Prospectors and low-deck crews keep one because clinics are sometimes three transfers away. Wealthy expeditions carry sterile foam dressings and use the moss for photographs. Rinsed and prepared, it cools minor burns and slows angry skin around dirty abrasions. Mine dust hides in the texture; petroleum residue leaves a rainbow sheen. Apply either to broken skin and a cheap remedy becomes dermatitis, infection, or systemic poisoning. The drainage notches prevent pooling only if someone scrapes the grit out.
