Valemar is HIP 7981 on the charts — a Solaris Federation rim system about twenty-five light-years from Sol where the Crownline Conflict first turned from stewardship paperwork into fleet fire. Navigators still file it under Federation sovereignty. Haliori beam-cathedrals file it under future garden and say the name with the patience of people who think time belongs to them.

Concord maintains a gate here — one of the few ways humans reach the front without months of sublight complaint. That is why the system feels busy despite still being mostly survey and strip-mine economics: ring traffic, Navy tonnage, colonial feasibility boards, and belt tugs that never sleep.

The life belt holds two garden candidates — Valemar A and Valemar B — both flagged for terraforming after decades of feasibility work. Neither project has started. The Senate calls that prudence. Colonists call it hostage politics. Belt operators call it irrelevant and keep pulling ore.

The planetoid belts are the real industry: lithium seams, nickel frost, and ice for reaction mass — Tesla autominers on contract, human crews on bonus, and a throughput that pays for Crownline Bastion twice over. Past the inner survey worlds, the Federation built Crownline Bastion — a large orbital station and fleet anchorage where pickets, marines, and the ships that survived the first shield lessons still stack in berths that smell of ozone and coffee.
