Governor Edric Vey
Overview
Governor Edric Vey is the civil face of Valemar — HIP 7981, the rim system where the Crownline first stopped being paperwork and started smelling like burned sealant and recycled coffee on a fleet deck.
He won the system governorship in 2272 on a platform dock crews could chant without a speechwriter: no open borders with the Haliori Crown. Not a hate slogan. A sovereignty one. Vey will shake a Haliori attaché's hand if the protocol desk schedules it. He will not soft-open stewardship lanes, corridor easements, or "temporary garden access" that turns into a permanent claim on Valemar A and Valemar B. He talks Federation first — ore throughput, Bastion logistics, terraform votes that stay under human seals — and he does it in a voice that never rises, which somehow makes the Crownline pickets angrier than shouting would.
On camera he wears federal grey with a Valemar belt-pin instead of theater medals. Mid-fifties, salt at the temples, the posture of a man who spent years in Colonial Affairs survey rooms before anyone put him on a ballot. Spacers meet him at Crownline Bastion briefings, on Rim Courier feeds, or behind armored glass when the Senate wants a rim governor who will say ceasefire like a verb with teeth.
Recently the feeds got uglier: an assassination attempt on Vey. Federal security caught the shooter. The man died in custody before a clean interview. Net rooms are already selling the story that he was an outside agent — maybe working for someone inside the Haliori government. That claim is unsubstantiated. Vey has not endorsed it. He has also not walked it back.
