Ward Reach Colonial Hold
Overview
Ward Reach Colonial Hold
You set down on rust-brown flats into wind that tastes of iron and old dust, and the hold is the only vertical thing for a hundred kilometers — low prefab walls the color of faded Navy teal, heat-curtains cooling in the shade, a chart desk that doesn't pretend to be a city. Colonial Affairs built this for two jobs — keeping a B-class berth on the Federation's dry edge, and deciding what outsiders may write about it — and everything about the architecture says they've done both before and will do both again whether the Net applauds or not.
Inside, the air drops ten degrees and the light goes clinical. Sealed filing tabs hang on the wall in rows — placement manifests still under Witness Security review, each one a transfer tied to a name someone else's desk is hosting. The chart desk sits just inboard of the apron: seal-break, approach-vector checksum, upload queue stamped against a dual-filing primer packet most hulls skim and regret. Placement clerks move quiet on cooled stone. Chart officer Daniel Crane reads your file before your ramp is cold and asks, once, whether you logged the secondary approach beacons on the classified vector — because those pulses aren't navigation rocks; they're timing marks for sealed traffic contractor reach would love to see on an open board.
It is a hard welcome and a real one. They'll fuel a crew that treats first-chart work like registry honor and mean it — hot broth, a bunk out of the wind, a grip from an officer who reads your hull registry like a threat assessment. And in the same breath a chart officer will void your whole chain because you published Witness Security approach timing on a Concord template, because on Ward Reach a scout upload that exposes classified lanes is worse than no upload at all — unless you negotiated redaction before you filed.
