Ward Reach

Overview

Ward Reach

Five hops out — Sol, Alpha Centauri, Lacera, a brush past Karth's gate, and one more into dry Federation rim — you come up on a world Colonial Affairs filed as Ward Reach because the chart desk needed a name that wouldn't read like a tourist trap on open boards. HIP 67593 is still Solaris Federation space: a large desert under a dense, iron-heavy sky, rust-brown flats, wind-scoured escarpments, and a single colonial hold dug into a mesa lee like a bunker that learned to grow fuel crops. B-class berth, strict registry law, low headcount — thousands, not millions — and the whole place smells of cooled heat-curtains, hot dust, and the low hum of a chart desk that wasn't built for sightseers.

This isn't Witness Deep and it isn't Lacera's polite Treaty Reach, though the kinship shows in the paperwork: sealed manifests, intake-adjacent berths, clerks who speak slow enough to regret. Ward Reach is a first-chart frontier — Concord lists the HIP, Colonial Affairs tolerates the spur, but nobody has filed a proper scout packet on the colonial hold itself. The settlement runs on chart consent and placement law — deep-lane hulls that treat logging like registry work, not template filler, get hot broth, a bunk out of the wind, and a chart officer who reads your upload queue before your ramp is cold.

So the place reads honest and dangerous in the same breath. And in the same breath they'll tell you, precisely, that some vectors on the approach aren't yours to publish — because on Ward Reach a line on a map can expose a Witness Security secondary lane as surely as a wellness-check intercept exposes a sealed ward.
