Aethari

Overview

Aethari — *the people who turned light into matter and then left the room.*

Most of the Orion Corridor treats the Aethari as a rumor with good lighting: compact grey-silver figures, oversized dark eyes, skin that flickers when they work, and vehicles that arrive without a wake because they never bothered with the intervening space. Spacer bars call them "little greys" when they want to sound clever. Fringe boards link them to the Korrathi conspiracy — the claim that Ancients War warframes never stopped being people — which respectable historians file under the same shelf as the unseen Concord CEO.

What the public record admits is thin and expensive. The Aethari could convert energy into matter — not alchemy as a parlor trick, but industrial ontology: feedstock from vacuum gradients, hull plate from reactor bleed, food from starlight if you had the patience. They moved people and craft by quantum tunneling — short, brutal hops that made Concord rings look like polite infrastructure invented by people who still believed in doors.

They did not die out. After the Ancients War against the Vethari, they withdrew to another arm of the galaxy so this region's fauna — including the young species still arguing about who owns the docks — could evolve without their interference. What they left behind was guilt, ruins, and a people they had taught how to want to live: the Korrathi.

On Khesret you do not meet Aethari at the Transit Ring. You meet their absence — in Korrathi nursery law, in salvage that refuses carbon dating, and in Concord hardware that sometimes looks like it was designed by someone who never needed a gate.
