Reef-Spiral Survey Skiff
Overview
Reef-Spiral Survey Skiff
The skiff is a shallow-draft research tub with chipped white paint, articulated sample arms, and a cabin just large enough for three people who are no longer speaking politely. It drops from the berth to Sirosh's reef flats on short thrusters, then rides the water on retractable foils.
The work should be easy: map bloom density, net micro-fauna, log salinity, seal the canisters. Maya Torres runs the instruments while the crew keeps the skiff on grid and watches storm traffic. Sunlight turns the reef shelves gold beneath the hull. Every surface tastes faintly of salt and disinfectant.
Line 7 crosses the Spiral Bloom Shelf, closed under a Federal spawning-season order. The marker is not sacred custom or alien law. It is a yellow environmental buoy, a statute number, and a nursery full of fragile life. Ethan Cole's permit stops there. The sample sponsor's money does not.
