Drassari
Overview
Drassari — *the huge crest-folk who make archive desks look like furniture for children.*
Concord clerks who write "large reptilian migrant" get half a point for honesty and lose the rest for laziness. The Drassari are sapient, lizard-like, and big — commonly eight to ten feet of mottled scale, long neck, and swept-back ridged crest that reads as a silhouette from across a tariff hall. They are not Zatheeri. Say that again if you have to. Different people. Different size. Different job on the docks.
Form — Fine scales in teal, moss, blue, and earth-brown mottling. No hair. Large dark eyes in deep sockets. Slit nostrils. Thin wide mouths. Long dexterous hands — often cooler blue-grey than the face. A muscular tail may coil under layered robes. They favor scholarly wraps and ochre vests, pendant medallions, and the patient stillness of people who have outlived three of your career plans.
Culture — Drassari enclaves cluster around archives, charter libraries, Magery registries, and long-memory law. They treat information like weather: you do not own it, you navigate it. On Khesret you meet them in Spire annex reading rooms, Meridian treaty stacks, and quiet scriptoria that smell of toner, brine-mist humidifiers, and old paper that somehow still exists in 2277.
They are uncommon enough to turn heads and common enough that nobody calls security anymore — unless you confuse them with a Zatheeri sailor. Then the correction is educational.
